Thank you for your interest in the 21st Annual National Air Traffic Controllers Association, Southwest Region International Skifest.  Each year the skifest brings Air Traffic Controllers from around the world together for some well-deserved R&R (Rest & Relaxation), some World Class Skiing and the opportunity to make new friends. We hope you will join us in what is annually a great experience.  This year we return to one of North America’s most beautiful places and the excitement of Lake Tahoe in Northern California and Western Nevada.  We will also be celebrating the retirement of our long time organizer who, for the past 20 years has made the skifest possible for all of us.  We hope you will consider joining us for a special toast at this year’s Skifest.

Air and Ground Transportation:

Your arrival airport should be Reno, Nevada (closest) or Sacramento, California (about 100 miles/no shuttle service). Closest International gateway is San Francisco, about 4 hours drive.

Airport to hotel shuttle information from Reno International Airport is online at:  http://www.southtahoeexpress.com/

There is no shuttle service from Sacramento International Airport. Rental car would be necessary.  Drive time from the Sacramento Airport to the hotel is about 2 hours.

There is shuttle service from the hotel to the area ski resorts.  Heavenly Ski resort is accessible by gondola, which is a short walk from the hotel. Group transportation will be provided for our ski day on the North Shore and cruise aboard the Tahoe Queen.

A rental car is nice to have and with the area sights is certainly something to consider.  However a rental car is not necessary to enjoy the group activities.

Group Functions & Lift Tickets:

The Lift tickets will consist of 3 individual day lift tickets good at Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe resorts. In addition, we will be skiing 1 day on the North Shore at either Northstar or Squaw Valley resorts, with return lake cruise aboard the Tahoe Queen, return shuttle bus from the boat to the resort and Après party aboard the Tahoe Queen on the return journey.

Questions and Answers:

For planning purposes, I would try to schedule your arrival in Lake Tahoe in time for the Opening Reception at 7pm on Saturday. Drive time from the airport to the hotel is about 1 hour. History shows that early departures on the departure Saturday are NOT desirable.

As a suggestion only, I would schedule flight departure for 11am or later.

We have made every attempt to answer all questions.  Please feel free to ask if you have further questions or if there is some other assistance, which we may provide.  All Lodging questions need to be made to the Horizon Casino Resort!
